The University of Mary Washington volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the University of Scranton on Saturday. The Eagles dropped a 3-1 decision to William Smith College, and then dropped a 3-0 decision to the host Royals. The Eagles slip to 0-3 on the season.
UMW fell in the opener to William Smith, dropping the first game, 25-19, before winning the second, 25-20. The Herons claimed the third, 25-22, and the fourth, 25-15, for the victory.
Mackenzie Williams led the Eagles with nine kills, while
Avery Gallahue added seven.
Sarah Starling a
Claire Wortman each added six kills.
Senior
Maura Munson scored 13 assists, while
Olivia Fortier posted 10, and Gallahue recorded four aces.
Julia Gustafson added 10 digs.
In the Eagles' second match of the day, Scranton defeated the Eagles, 25-11, 25-17, 25-22.
Natalie Brown led the way with seven kills, while Gallahue and Starling each had five. Fortier posted 11 assists, and Gustafson recorded three service aces and nine digs. Munson was named to the all-tournament team.
UMW will return to action on Wednesday, when the Eagles host Catholic University at 7:00 p.m. in the home opener.
