The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2025 season at the University of Richmond Spider Alumni Open on Saturday morning.

The men raced first, and Rylan Sedlacek led a pack of Eagles in the primarily-Division I competitor field, by finishing in 68th place at 19:47.8. Senior Luke Blair took 69th at 19:47.9, and sophomore C.J. Hulleman finished 70th at 19:49.1. Senior Aidan Kimener placed 71st at 19:50.4, and the second pack of Eagles finished in 76th-80th, and included first years Steven Niese and Marcus Sosa, Jimmy Volk, Everett Cimon, and Nicholas Smerlis.

On the women's side, sophomore Lily Hoffman finished in 58th place, at 15:07.2. Eyaya Fletcher took 105th at 16:11, Addy Wallin finished 118th at 16:30, and Celeste Hammond was 120th at 16:32. Raina Carter rounded out the top five in 124th place, at 16:39.

Both teams will be back in action in two weeks at the University of Virginia Invitational.
