Fresh off its third consecutive Sweet 16 appearance and Coast-to-Coast Conference championship, the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team returns to the pitch as the No. 9 team in the country, according to the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
The Eagles finished last season 19-2-2 with a record of 19-1-2 against NCAA Division III opponents as they started the 2024 season with 16 matches without a loss, setting a new program record. In 2025, UMW will look a little different on the field as the Eagles return just one of their starters in the Sweet 16 loss to Denison.
Sammy Amorose, who tied the single-game program record in goals scored with four against Rutgers-Newark on Sept. 1 of last season, returns at the forefront of the Eagles' offense. UMW also returns a great deal of experience as
Nathan Macek,
Michael Lenhard,
Jack Sturman,
Alex Keeton,
Gerrard Valoyi, and
Blake Hoskins -- athletes that saw extended action last season -- all return to defend the C2C this fall.
The Eagles open up the 2025 season against Ohio Northern in Fredericksburg on Friday, Aug. 29 at 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 31 for the Roy Gordon field naming ceremony against N.C. Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
