UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls to #1 Salisbury, 14-6, in CLC Matchup

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-6 decision to Salisbury University, the top team in the latest NCAA NPI ranking, in Coastal Lacrosse Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 8-5 on the season, and see their five-game win streak come to an end.

UMW started the fireworks, netting the game's first goal, as senior Carter Lynch scored just 45 seconds into play. Salisbury responded with four straight scores to close the quarter, and led, 4-1 after 15 minutes.

The Eagles bounced back in the second, after both teams were held off the scoreboard for seven minutes to start the frame. Brady Leischner scored on a Lynch assist at 7:52, and Jacob Fowler collected the ensuing face off and scored himself at 7:30 to pull the Eagles to within 4-3, exactly midway through the second. The Sea Gulls netted a pair of goals to extend the lead back to 6-3, but UMW capped the scoring before halftime, as Tanner Boone scored on a Tucker Bradley assist with 1:14 on the clock.

In the third quarter, Salisbury scored just over a minute into the action, but UMW responded with a tally at 12:56, from Ryan Adams, unassisted, to draw to within 7-5. Salisbury then went on a pivotal 4-0 run over the next six minutes, extending the margin to 11-5. Adams added another with 2:46 left in the third to pull the Eagles back to within 11-6. The Sea Gulls outscored the Eagles, 3-0, in the fourth for the 14-6 final.

Salisbury led in shots, 44-40, as well as ground balls, 47-40. UMW goalkeeper Wyatt Martin made 16 saves in tying his career high.

The Eagles will be back in action on April 16 at fourth-ranked Christopher Newport University at 4:00 p.m. in another Coastal Lacrosse Conference showdown.
