UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls at #4 Christopher Newport, 22-8

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 22-8 decision at fourth ranked Christopher Newport University on Wednesday afternoon in Newport News, Va. The Eagles slip to 8-6 overall, and 2-2 in Coastal Lacrosse Conference play.

The Eagles jumped in front with the first goal of the day, as Sterling Colgan scored at 13:04, but the Captains answered with four straight to grab the lead. The Eagles tallied another at 6:42 of the first, as Tanner Boone scored on a Dave Votapek assist, but again CNU answered with two goals to lead, 6-2, after 15 minutes.

In the second, the Eagles scored first again, as Keegan Shipe scored on a Henry Moag assist at 11:22. Christopher Newport then netted four straight, before Moag scored on a Tommy Jackson feed at 5:11. The Captains used a late run with five goals to lead, 9-3, at halftime.

Boone started the third quarter with another tally assisted by Jacob Fowler at 14:36. CNU scored three straight to close the third and another to open the fourth, before Moag and Votapek netted scores. CNU scored a trio of goals before Matt DiGiacomo scored on an A.J. Lembo feed to cap the scoring.

The Eagles were outshot, 56-35, and the Captains led in ground balls, 47-21. UMW goalies Wyatt Martin (14 saves) and Ryan D'Angelo (six) combined to man the Eagle net.

UMW will return to action on Saturday when the Eagles visit Kean University at noon in another CLC showdown.
