The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-10 decision a Kean University on Saturday afternoon in Coastal Lacrosse Conference action. The Eagles slip to 8-7 overall, and 2-3 in CLC action.
Unlike in previous conference contests this season, it was the Eagles' opponent who stormed ahead early, as Kean jumped on top with the first six goals of the game. UMW answered with a score from senior
Sterling Colgan with 2:39 left in the first to get on the scoreboard.
In the second quarter, UMW scored on a tally from junior
Dave Votapek at 13:26 on a
Henry Moag assist. The Cougars scored a pair before a UMW tally from
Reece Stone at 9:42, on a pass from
Jackson Rhodes. Kean added two more goals, before another Eagle goal, from Votapek, at 4:35. Kean led, 10-4, at halftime.
The Eagles challenged to get back in the contest in the third quarter, starting with a goal from Rhodes at 10:30 on a Moag assist, and another from
Tommy Jackson at 4:52 on a pass from
Tanner Boone. Votapek added another after a Kean goal to pull the Eagles to within 11-7, but the Cougars capped the third with another score.
In the fourth, Votapek drew UMW to within 11-8, but Kean scored three straight to put the game away. Colgan and Moag each scored late to move the final to 15-10.
The Eagles led in shots, 50-37, and ground balls, 30-25. UMW goalkeeper
Wyatt Martin made nine saves.
UMW will close the regular season on Tuesday, when the Eagles host St. Mary's College of MD at 6:00 p.m.
