The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-9 decision at fifth ranked Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon in Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference action. The Eagles close the regular season with a record of 11-6.
Salisbury opened play with a pair of goals, but the Eagles kept pace with a score from
Sadie Laughlin on a free position goal at 9:46. Senior
Tori Mueller added another goal after an SU score, and
Taylar Hackney capped the quarter with another goal, to keep the Eagles to within 4-3 after 15 minutes.
In the second quarter, Salisbury pulled ahead with a 6-0 run, before UMW answered with a goal from Mueller with 2:12 left, and the score stood at 10-4 at halftime. The third quarter saw the Sea Gulls add to their advantage with three scores in the opening five minutes, before sophomore
Abigail Fisher netted a free position goal with 9:26 left. Salisbury closed the third with three goals, and opened the fourth with another, extending its lead to 17-5 with one minute elapsed in the fourth.
Fisher scored her second goal of the day on an
Ava Windham assist at 10:05, and after Salisbury added another, Mueller scored her third goal of the day on a free position score. Fisher and Mueller added free position goals down the stretch to move the final to 18-9.
Salisbury led in shots, 35-18, as well as ground balls, 14-8.
Allison Carolan made three saves, and
Cece Van Blenis one in goal for UMW, who will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Christopher Newport University for the C2C semifinal match.
