The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-5 decision a eighth-ranked York College of PA on Wednesday afternoon in York, Pa. The Eagles slip to 10-2 on the season.
The Spartans quickly seized control of the game, scoring four goals in the opening 3:04 of action, The Eagles settled in with a score from
Ashley Firesheets on a
Tori Mueller assist with 8:38 remaining, and trailed, 5-1, after 15 minutes.
York added a pair of scores to its lead in the second, before Mueller scored on a free position shot with 46 seconds remaining. The Spartans regained momentum with a latte tally with seven seconds left.
In the third quarter, York started the scoring but UMW added one score with a tally from
Molly Daw with 5:59 left, and another from Abigail fisher on an
Anna Dube assist with 59 seconds left. The fourh saw Fisher score again on a player-up, free position score.
York led in shots, 26-19, while the Eagles carried a 22-21 edge in ground balls.
Allison Carolan had four saves and
Cece Van Blenis one for the Eagles.
UMW will return to action on April 12 when the Eagles host Christopher Newport at 1:00 p.m. for senior day.
