The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-3 decision to visiting Christopher Newport University on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 10-3 on the season.
UMW started swiftly, as sophomore
Abigail Fisher netted the game's first score at 13:39. Christopher Newport answered back, netting five consecutive goals to finish the first quarter, and led, 5-1, after 15 minutes.
In the second, the Captains continued their run, scoring five unanswered goals, and took a 10-1 lead to halftime. The third was more of the same, as CNU outscored the Eagles, 5-0. The Captains netted the first two of the fourth, before the Eagles scored with 4:15 to go on a
Kimber Konen goal assisted by
Tori Mueller. Mueller then scored at 1:53 on an
Ava Windham assist.
Christopher Newport led in shots, 31-16, and claimed 15-24 draw controls. Senior goalie
Allison Carolan made four saves in 38:30 of action in goal for the Eagles.
Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday when the Eagles host St. Mary's College of MD in a nonconference game at 7:00 p.m.
