The University of Mary Washington softball team split its final two regular season home games with Shenandoah on Friday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va.
Game 1 - Eagles win, 6-4.
In Game 1, the Eagles fell behind by a run in the first inning before
Emma Dickson tied it with a single of the bottom of the second, then
Kennedy Darling singled home another run to put UMW up by a run, 2-1.
In the third,
Abby Fielder and
Bayly Yerigan successfully completed a double steal of second and home as Fielder slid in safely to second, while Yerigan scored easily to up the lead to a pair, 3-1.
Sofia Marshall then followed with a sac fly that scored Fielder to push the lead to 4-1. In the fourth, Yerigan grounded out to second to score another, while Angel drove a sac fly that scored the Eagles' final run at 6-1.
Taylor Hudson was strong in the circle for UMW, yielding just two runs in four innings and racked up her fourth win of the season while
Anna Dobson recorded the final five outs and earned her fourth save of the season.
Game 2 - Eagles lose, 5-4.
In Game 2, UMW fell behind by a pair in the second inning, but scored a run in the third to cut into the deficit by a run, 2-1, when
Emily Angel singled up the middle. In the fifth, the Hornets increased their lead to 4-1, but UMW made a push to tie it in the bottom half.
Darling reached on an infield single to cut the defict to 4-2, then Angel drove in her second run of the game with an RBI single, and finally
Shelby Presgrave's RBI ground out tied the score for UMW in the inning.
But the Eagles would then fall to Shenandoah in the eighth inning after a sac fly gave the Hornets the lead.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday at 12:30 pm at Catholic in Washington, D.C.
