UMW Softball Drops Sunday Doubleheader to #8 Salisbury

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a Sunday doubleheader to No. 8 Salisbury in Fredericksburg, Va.

Game 1 - Eagles lose, 5-1.

The Eagles got on the board first when Emily Angel drove a sac fly to right field that scored Hannah Steele to put the Eagles up by a run in the bottom of the first. Taylor Hudson, meanwhile, followed with zero's in the second and third innings in the circle.

In the fourth, though, Hudson ran into some trouble as the Sea Gulls added a pair of runs to take the lead before adding two more in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. And in the seventh, Salisbury added another to take a four-run lead.

Steele collected a pair of hits while Shelby Presgrave, Brigid Ward and Carys Gohlmann added a hit each.

Game 2 - Eagles lose, 10-4.

In the first inning, Steele singled to center and was moved to third to score the game's first run and put UMW up by a run. Salisbury countered with four runs in the second inning, though, taking a three-run lead.

In the third, however, UMW added a pair of runs when Presgrave grounded out to score a run, then Steele scored on another wild pitch to cut into the lead, 4-3. And in the fourth, UMW tied the game at four when Gohlmann scored on a wild pitch.

In the final three frames, though, the Sea Gulls scored six runs to take a 10-4 lead.

The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday against Stevenson at 2 pm in Fredericksburg, Va.
