The University of Mary Washington's
Jacob Christenbury collected three hits and
Eric Powell collected a pair, but in the end, it wasn't enough in the Eagles' 8-2 loss to Randolph-Macon on Thursday in Fredericksburg, Va.
The Eagles fell behind by a pair of runs in the third, then six after a four-run fifth, and then finally, 8-0 after a run in the sixth and seventh innings before UMW was able to make a late push.
Mary Washington loaded the bases in the seventh but was only able to score a run on
Oliver Martin's ground out. Then UMW added another in the eighth on
Bobby Ayscue's sac fly to cut into the lead, 8-2, but that was the closest UMW got.
Ryan Henson tossed a shutout eighth, while
Matthew Caldwell tossed a shutout ninth in the loss.
Mary Washington is back in action this Saturday in Salisbury, Md. to take on No. 7 Salisbury. First pitch in the pivotal C2C game is set for 2:00 pm.
