The University of Mary Washington softball team fell to Averett in its final game of the of the Grand Slam Triangle Classic, 8-1.
The Eagles got off to an early lead when
Emily Angel doubled homeÂ
Hannah Steele to begin the scoring, but after, the Cougars took over as they scored eight unanswered runs to come away with the win.
Angel, Steele,
Shelby Presgrave, and
Emma Dickson all recorded hits for the Eagles.
Anna Dobson was the most effective pitcher in relief, going 3.2 innings, allowing just one earned run.
The Eagles are back in action on Monday at Methodist for a doubleheader.
