The University of Mary Washington softball team fell to Roanoke in a Tuesday afternoon twinbilling in Salem, Va., 9-1 and 8-3.
In Game 1, Mary Washington scored first when
Shelby Presgrave singled home
Brigid Ward to put the Eagles up 1-0 in the third inning. Then the Maroons countered with two in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. And in the fifth and sixth innings, Roanoke scored seven runs to come away with the victory.
Presgrave went 2-for-3, while Ward went 2-for-2, and
Emily Angel had the fifth hit for the Eagles in Game 1.
In Game 2, Mary Washington scored first when Ward singled home Balyl Yerigan to put the Eagles up 1-0. In the fourth, the Maroons countered with four runs, but
Emily Angel brought the Eagles back with a two-run homer that cut into the lead, 4-3.
And in the final few innings, the Maroons were once again able to pull away with the victory by scoring five more runs.
The Eagles are back in action this upcoming weekend for the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, N.C.
