The University of Mary Washington baseball team bounced back from its late Monday loss to stomp Elmira, 15-4, on Tuesday morning as the Eagles'
Ty Lowe did it all with six strong innings on the mound and a pair of home runs.
Before Lowe even got the baseball on the mound, he helped himself out with a two-run homer in the top of the first that put the Eagles up, 2-0, just four batters into the game. And after that, Lowe homered once more in the sixth. He turned in six innings of three-run ball, while striking out eight along the way and working around six hits and a walk.
After Lowe's homer in the first, Elmira scored in the second to crawl a little closer, 2-1, but the Eagles scored two more in the fourth to increase their lead.
Luke Guerzon's RBI single and
Tommy Martinez's sac fly was enough to push the advantage.Â
In the fourth, Elmira pulled to within a run again with a two-run homer but UMW scored 11 runs during the final four innings to pull away with the win. In the fifth,
Bobby Ayscue drove in a run with a bases-loaded single, then
Eric Powell drove a ball to left field to score another on a sac fly. And just like that, UMW led 6-3.
In the sixth, Mary Washington added four more as
Jacob Christenbury singled Martinez home, then
Noah Roots recorded a sac fly to score another, and finally, Lowe's second two-run homer of the day pushed UMW's lead to 10-3.Â
In the eighth,
Noah Roots homered that drove in a pair of runs, then
Luke Guerzon drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double that pushed the lead to 15-3.
The Eagles are back in action later on Tuesday afternoon against Nuemann at 4:30 p.m.
