The University of Mary Washington had no issues in its 12-0 seven inning, run ruled victory over Bridgewater on Wednesday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning when
Burke Steifman reached on an error that scored
Connor Hassan for the first run of the day. Then
Noah Roots followed by driving in
Oliver Martin and
Ryan Schwarz to push the lead to 3-0. Finally,
Ty Lowe added another with an RBI double to extend the lead to four.
Jacob Christenbury added another with a sac fly in the fourth, then
Bobby Ayscue added two more runs on his third homer of the season to push UMW's lead to seven. Christenbury then drew a walk with the bases loaded to drive in his second run of the day in the fifth.
And finally in the sixth,
Tommy Martinez drew a bases-loaded walk, while
Connor Hassan drove in a run by reaching on a fielder's choice. Up by 10, Steifman drove in another run with a sac fly, and lastly, Martin reached on a throwing error by the Bridgewater shortstop that yielded the 12th run.
Mary Washington's
Gavin Riley earned his second win of the year after tossing six shutout frames, while striking out seven and working around three hits and three walks. Hassan finished the game on the mound by firing a shutout seventh.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday with a matchup against Christopher Newport. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
