The University of Mary Washington softball team fell in a doubleheader to Gettysburg on Saturday in Fredericksburg, Va.
Game 1 - Eagles lose, 7-2
In Game 1, UMW fell behind by five by the third inning and never recovered. The Bullets pulled out in front by seven in the seventh, but that's when the Eagles scored a couple of runs. In the final frame, Mary Washington scored a pair as
Emily Angel singled home
Hannah Steele for UMW's first run of the day, then
Shelby Presgrave added another run with a single of her own.
Presgrave, Angel,
Brigid Ward, and
Erica Shoop all recorded hits for the Eagles as
Sofia Marshall was able to stop the bleeding as she came on in relief in the fourth inning, tossing four innings and striking out a pair.
Game 2 - Eagles lose, 9-4
In Game 2, UMW fell behind in the first frame by four runs, but Angel drew a little closer with a solo home run with two outs in the bottom half of the frame, 4-1. In the second and third, the Bullets added another run.Â
The Eagles added another run in the fourth inning on
Emily Mousso's RBI double that scored
Lily Woodham, 7-2. In the seventh, the Bullets plated three more, but Mary Washington added two in the bottom of the frame.
Hannah Steele reached on an error that scored
Kennedy Darling from third, then
Linsey Spillman reached on a fielder's choice to drive in the final run of the game.
UMW collected seven hits in Game 2 as Angel, Woodham, Marshall, Mousso,
Emma Dickson and
Taylor Moody collected hits for Mary Washington.
Anna Dobson came on in relief in the fourth inning and allowed two earned runs in four innings.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday against Eastern Mennonite at 3 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
