The University of Mary Washington baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader with Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa.
Game 1 - Eagles lose, 11-1.
Not much went right for the Eagles in Game 1 as UMW found itself down 5-0 by the end of the third, but a
Bobby Ayscue RBI allowed UMW to crawl back at 5-1 in the fourth. From there on, though, the Red Devils scored six more to run-rule UMW.
Game 2 - Eagles win, 10-1.
Mary Washington bounced back in a big way in Game 2 as the Eagles recorded 14 hits and nine RBIs as
Ryan Schwarz led the way with a 4-of-5 day with a triple and two RBIs, while
Ty Lowe collected a hit and three RBIs.
Dickinson got on the board first with a steal of home in the first, but from there, it was all Mary Washington. In the second, Burke Stiefman gave UMW the lead for good with a two-RBI single, then in the third, Lowe recorded the first of his three RBIs with a ground out, 3-1. In the fifth, Lowe singled home Schwarz to push the lead to three, 4-1.
In the sixth, though, the Eagles opened the game as
Oliver Martin reached on an error that scored another run, then Schwarz tripled home Martin to add another, and finally, Lowe added another RBI on a ground out at UMW led, 7-1.
In the ninth, the Eagles added three more runs as Schwarz singled another run home and
Noah Roots drove in two more with a two-RBI double.
Brendan McComber worked six innings out of the bullpen for UMW, yielding just four hits and no runs.
