The 26th ranked University of Mary Washington men's tennis team defeated #35 Caltech on Sunday afternoon in Pasadena, California, and then topped #32 Chapman University. The Eagles improve to 8-1 on the season.
In the Caltech match, the Eagles scored the doubles point after wins from
Jack Riordan and
Trevor Rein at one, 6-3, over Marco Yang and Eric He, and from
Matt Scott and
Will Fromherz at three, 6-1, over Aditya Srinivasan and Bharathan Sundar.
In singles, Rein downed Constantin Cedillo at one, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-4), and
Brock Ladehoff downed Tejas Ram at two, 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 1-0 (10-7).
Evan Fisher defeated He at three, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9), in another tiebreaker, giving UMW three breaker wins.
Albert Vladimirskiy defeated Aditya Srinivasan at four, 6-0, retired, and Riordan topped Bharathan Sundar at six, 6-3, 6-4.
The Eagles then visited #32 Chapman University, and came away with a thrilling 4-3 victory.
In doubles, the Eagles gained the point with wins from Ladehoff and Fisher at two, 6-2, over Ian Jordan and Julien Sanseverino, and Fromherz and Scott at three, 6-3.
In singles, the Eagles scored a win from Vladimirskiy at five, 6-3, 7-6, to draw to within 3-2 with two matches left, and
Ryan King scored a 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 victory at four over Mac Caldwell, and a 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 win from Scott at six over Jordan for the win.
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday at Redlands at 6:00 p.m.
