The University of Mary Washington softball team blew out Randolph in a Wednesday doubleheader in Lynchburg, Va.
Game 1 - Eagles win, 9-3.
In Game 1 the Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the third inning as
Carys Gohlmann tripled home a pair of runs to start the scoring in the second, then she stole home to put UMW up by three, 3-0. In the fourth,
Erica Shoop then singled home another run.
The Wildcats got on the board with three runs to score in the bottom of the fourth, but UMW pulled away with five more runs. In the fifth,
Brigid Ward scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 5-3, then
Emily Mousso singled home a pair of runs before Angel scored on a wild pitch in the sixth and
Shelby Presgrave added another run with an RBI ground out.
Sydney Jester earned the win for UMW as she pitched 3.1 innings, yielding three runs (two earned), while striking out a pair.
Game 2 - Eagles win, 10-1.
UMW got off to another quick start in Game 2 as it jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first that started like this: Ward doubled home a pair to start the scoring, then
Emma Dickson drove in two runs with an RBI single, and just like that, the Eagles led 4-0. In the second,
Bayly Yerigan reached on a fielder's choice that drove in a run, then scored once
Erica Shoop reached on a fielder's choice of her own. And finally, Ward reached on an error that drove in
Kennedy Darling as UMW led 8-0.
In the fourth, Angel doubled home a run and Mousso singled home another run to extend the lead to 9-0, and finally Angel grounded out to add another run in the fifth to extend UMW's lead back to nine, 10-1.
Taylor Hudson, Sophia Marshall, and
Claire Suto all pitched in UMW's victory, combining for two strikeouts and one unearned run.
Mary Washington is back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader with Gettysburg in Fredericksburg, Va. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
