The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 20-3 victory over Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Tuesday evening at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 8-1 on the season, and are off to their best start since 2019.
Sophomore
Abigail Fisher started the proceedings with the opening goal on a Tori Mueller assist at 12:42, and senior
Molly Daw followed with three straight, at 9:59 on an
Anna Dube feed, at 8:38 unassisted, and at 6:10 on a
Taylar Hackney assist. After a Blugold score, the Eagles closed the quarter with two scores. Daw scored with 51 seconds left , and
Ashley Firesheets followed at 44 seconds left on a Daw assist following a successful draw.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire opened the second by cutting the margin to 6-2, but
Kimber Konen followed with a pair of player-up scores at 12:38 from Daw and at 10:55 from Firesheets. Eau Claire scored, but the Eagles again answered with goals from Hackney at 6:42 and Firesheets at 4:27 to lead, 11-3, at halftime.
In the third, Daw scored from Firesheets in the opening minute, and Firesheets scored at 13:00 unassisted and at 10:44 from Mueller, who then scored at 8:13.
Maura Schroeder followed with a natural hat trick, with three straight goals in a 5:10 span.Â
In the fourth
Molly Ryan Gates and
Makenna Hadden scored to push the final to 20-3.
The Eagles led in shots, 38-17, and ground balls, 21-20. Goalkeeper
Cece Van Blenis made six saves in 30 minutes, while
Allison Carolan turned in a clean 15 minutes, before
Adrianna Hernandez followed with 15 shutout minutes with three saves.
The Eagles will be back in action on Friday at Kenyon College at 4:00 p.m.
