The University of Mary Washington softball team fell in a Monday doubleheader to NC Wesleyan in Fredericksburg, Va.
Game 1 - Eagles lose, 8-3.
After a back and forth first few innings, the Eagles tied the Battling Bishops at three runs apiece when
Brigid Ward singled home two runs in the fourth inning. NC Wesleyan took the lead back in the sixth with a four-run inning, then added another in the seventh.
Sydney Jester gave UMW a solid start in the circle, allowing three runs in four innings of work before departing in the fifth after yielding a lead-off single.
Hannah Steele recorded a pair of hits for the Eagles.
Game 2 - Eagles lose, 11-5.
In Game 2, UMW fell behind in the first by four runs, but countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning when
Emily Angel's sac fly drove home Steele to cut into the lead, 4-1. In the fifth, the Bishops added four more runs, but the Eagles countered once again in the fifth when
Sofia Marshall singled home both
Bayly Yerigan and Steele, 8-3.
NC Wesleyan added two more in the sixth, but Mary Washington also added another with Steele's RBI single and then Ward drove in another run after reaching on a fielder's choice.Â
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday in a doubleheader at Randolph College. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
