UMW Softball Downed in Saturday Doubleheader

The University of Mary Washington softball team fell in a Saturday doubleheader to Bridgewater and Greensboro College in Harrisonburg, Va.

Game 1 - Eagles lose to Bridgewater, 5-3

Mary Washington jumped up by a run in the first inning when Emily Angel tripled home Kennedy Darling, but gave up the lead in the second when Bridgewater scored a run. Then Bridgewater added two more runs in the third, then another in the fifth as it led UMW, 4-1.

The Eagles nearly tied it in the sixth when Emily Mousso lifted a sac fly, then Sofia Marshall doubled home a run, but the tying run never came around to score, 4-3. In the bottom of the inning, Bridgewater added another run.

Game 2 - Eagles fall to Greensboro, 6-4

The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in Game 2 when Mousso grounded out, scoring Abby Fielder on the play in the second. In the third, Emily Angel drove in Marshall and Carys Golhmann with an RBI single, putting UMW up, 3-0.

In the fourth, Greensboro cut into the lead, 3-1, then scored five in the sixth inning, before the Eagles cut into the deficit with Mousso's second sac fly of the day, but that was the closest they'd get, 6-4.

Taylor Hudson went four innings, allowing five runs (three earned), while Marshall and Anna Dobson finished the day off in the circle.

The Eagles are back in action on Monday with a doubleheader against NC Wesleyan in Fredericksburg, Va. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
