Ty Lowe Does it All as UMW Baseball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader Against John Carroll

The University of Mary Washington baseball team outdueled John Carroll in a Saturday doubleheader in Fredericksburg, Va.

Game 1 - Eagles win, 3-0

Mary Washington received an excellent start from Ty Lowe who carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before departing after firing eight shutout innings, allowing just a pair of hits and a walk. Lowe also struck out seven in his outing.

The Eagles got on the board first in the top of the first when Bobby Ayscue singled home a pair of runs, while Eric Powell stole home in the fourth to put the Eagles up by three runs.

UMW recorded eight hits as Jacob Christenbury had a multi-hit game, while Griffin Graham recorded the save after throwing the last inning in relief.

Game 2 - Eagles win, 5-2

In Game 2, UMW jumped out to another 2-0 lead when Lowe singled home Noah Roots in the first, then Ayscue tripled home Lowe in the third. But the Blue Streaks tied the game at two in the fourth.

In the fifth, starting pitcher Brendan McComber walked the first two batters in the inning, then after a pitching change, on came Ryan Henson, who got the first out after a sac bunt. An intentional walk loaded the bases with an out and then Henson recorded a pop out, then worked back from a 3-0 count to hold the game tied at two apiece for the third out of the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, UMW took the lead back with Lowe's RBI double, then in the sixth Oliver Martin added another run with an RBI single, and finally, Tommy Martinez added the last run in the inning on a dropped by ball as the Eagles led, 5-2.

Ryan Northup worked the final 11 outs in relief, picking up his first save of the season.

The Eagles are back in action on Sunday at 10 a.m. against John Carroll in Fredericksburg, Va.
