Senior attacker
Henry Moag led a contingent of nine different Eagles to score with four, as the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team defeated Baldwin Wallace University, 15-10, on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles up their record to 4-4 on the season.
The Eagles led throughout, jumping out to a 6-2 advantage in the opening 15 minutes. Senior
Ryan Adams opened the scoring at 12:36, and senior
Jackson Rhodes followed with another at 11:11. Moag netted his first at 10:17, and after a Yellow Jacket goal, senior
Carter Lynch and junior
Reece Stone added another pair, giving UMW a 5-1 lead with 3:33 left.
Tanner Boone capped the quarter on a feed from senior
Tommy Jackson, giving the Eagles a 6-2 cushion.
The Eagles continued to finish in the second. After Baldwin Wallace closed to within 6-3, UMW reeled off three in the second. Moag posted his second of the day at 8:06, and senior
Keegan Shipe added another in transition at 7:05. Adams posted his second of the day at 5:36, and the Eagles led, 9-3, at halftime.
UMW opened the third with another, as senior
Nathan Turney scored on a Lynch assist at 12:30. Moag added another at 4:55 on a
Dylan Frost helper, but BW netted one to end the third and three straight to start the fourth to draw to within 11-8 with 13:10 remaining in the game.Â
The Eagles righted the ship, however, and four straight goals over a 7:01 span put the matter to rest. Stone started the run with a man up score assisted by
Owen Castleman at 12:32, and goals followed by
Dave Votapek at 11:05 (on a Turney assist), Stone from Moag at 8:34, and Moag again form Adams at 5:31. The Yellow Jackets score a pair to draw to within 15-10 with 3:46 left, but the Eagle defense wouldn't allow another to finish the five-goal triumph.
Moag led the Eagles with four goals and an assist, while Stone scored three, and Adams added two goals and an assist. The Eagles led in shots, 49-31, while BW held a 40-37 edge in ground balls.Â
The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, when they host Catholic University at 6:00 p.m.
