The University of Mary Washington baseball team took home a victory against Randolph-Macon on Wednesday evening, 9-4.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 1-0 lead before
Ryan Schwarz's RBI triple and
Noah Roots' RBI groundout gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first.
In the second, RMC tied it at a pair, but the Eagles took the lead with a four-run third.
Ty Lowe got the inning started with a two-RBI double, then
Tommy Martinez drew a bases-loaded walk, and finally,
Luke Guerzon drove in a run with a sac fly as UMW then led, 6-2.
In the fourth, UMW struck for two more when Lowe and
Bobby Ayscue singled home a run each, 8-2. Randolph-Macon drew a little closer in the sixth, cutting the deficit to 8-4, but the Eagles added another on Roots' RBI double.
Gavin Riley went 5.2 innings on the mound, surrendering four runs (three earned), while picking up his first win of the season and bouncing back into his 2024 form.
Ryan Northup supplied seven outs from the bullpen, while
Griffin Graham finished the game off in the ninth.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader with John Carroll. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
