The University of Mary Washington had no issues taking down Bridgewater on Tuesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va., taking down the Eagles from Harrisonburg, 11-1.
The Eagles went down by a run in the third but battled back with a five-run third inning that began like this:
Noah Roots singled home
Oliver Martin to start the scoring, then
Eric Powell drove in a run after being hit-by-a-pitch to give UMW the lead, then
Tommy Martinez reached on an infield single that scored
Ty Lowe, and finally
Connor Hassan doubled home a pair of runs that gave UMW a 5-1 lead.
In the fifth, UMW scored four more runs when Hassan drove in another run with an infield single, then Christenbury drove in a pair of runs with a triple, and finally
Ryan Schwarz drove in another run with a sac fly, that extended the Eagles' lead to 9-1.
And in the sixth, Hassan singled home his fourth run of the day, and finally,
Tommy Martinez stole home to extend UMW's lead to 11-1.
Hassan went 3-for-5 with a double, while driving in four runs, while
Justin Ritz and
Brendan McComber combined to give up just one run in their six combined innings of work. Meanwhile,
Nick Jordan,
Gavin Cunningham, and
Matthew Caldwell finished off the final three innings for UMW in its win.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday against Randolph-Macon at 3:30 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
