The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-2 victory over Methodist University on Monday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 7-1 on the season.
The Eagles rolled to a 13-0 halftime advantage, scoring seven goals in the first and six in the second. Senior
Molly Daw opened the scoring, and sophomore
Abigail Fisher followed on a
Taylar Hackney assist just 27 seconds later. Daw scored her second of the day at 11:33, again on a Hackney assist. At 8:06, Hackney scored herself on a
Maura Schroeder assist, and Schroeder followed with a score 28 seconds later on a
Kimber Konen feed. Hackney upped the lead to 6-0 at 6:42, and First year
Sadie Laughlin capped the quarter at 1:27.
In the second, Schroeder scored unassisted at 13:25, and Fisher scored on a Laughlin assist at 10:13. Daw upped the lead to 10-0 with her third of the day at 8:12, and Schroeder scored on a Laughlin assist at 5:26. Laughlin then fed Daw for another score at 4:17, and senior Tori Mueller added another with 11 seconds left on a Fisher helper.
First year
Gracie Fugleberg netted the Eagles' lone score in the third.
Ava Windham started the fourth quarter with a score, and
Anna Dube added a free position goal midway through. First years
Makenna Hadden and
Molly Ryan Gates capped the scoring.
The Eagles led in shots, 30-13, and caused 20 Monarch turnovers. UMW goalie
Allison Carolan made four saves in a shutout first 30 minutes, and first year
Adrianna Hernandez made three stops in the second half.
UMW will be back in action on March 18, when the Eagles host Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 6:00 p.m.
