The University of Mary Washington softball team lost both of its games to No. 8 Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon, 12-0 and 14-2, in Fredericksburg, Va.
In Game 1, the Eagles got a solid start out of
Sydney Jester as she held the Marlins scoreless until the fifth inning when a steal of home got Virginia Wesleyan on the board first.
Jester departed with a 1-0 deficit before the Marlins scored 11 runs in the final two innings.
Shelby Presgrave recorded the lone hit for Mary Washington in Game 1.
In Game 2, UMW found itself in a 12-0 hole at the end of the fourth inning as it picked up as
Emily Angel picked up the Eagles first hit in the first inning on a double that found the gap in right center field.
As they trailed 14-0, the Eagles drew a pair of bases-loaded walks to get on the scoreboard and cut into the deficit, 14-2, before the final out was recorded.
Mary Washington is back in action on Tuesday at Roanoke for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
