In a defensive slugfest, the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell to Randolph-Macon in Ashland, Va. on Friday night, 7-4.
The Eagles went up by a pair of goals whenÂ
Dave Votapek scored the first with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter, while
Ryan Adams scored just over a minute later. But then the Yellow Jackets countered with their first goal of the night with just over seven minutes left in the period.
UMW took three more shots in the period before coming up empty handed. In the second quarter, RMC scored twice in the period to take a 3-2 lead, butÂ
Carter Lynch went on to tie the score at three with 9:10 to play in the first half. And then Macon ended the half with a pair of goals to take a 5-3 lead.
In the third,
Dylan Frost netted a man-up goal to cut into the Jackets lead, 5-4, but Randolph-Macon scored once more. And in the fourth, the Yellow Jackets pulled away for good, coming away with their 7-4 victory.
The Eagles' offense certainly had their chances with 33 total shots in the game as they recorded 33 shots, while the Yellow Jackets had 28 of their own.
Wyatt Martin came away with 11 total saves, while the Eagles recorded 12 shots on net. On defense, Mary Washington forced 21 turnovers, while the Yellow Jackets forced 20. Too, Mary Washington came away with more ground balls, 31-21.
Mary Washington is back in action on Monday at Shenandoah. Face off is set for 4 p.m.
