The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team defeated Shenandoah University, 12-5, on Monday afternoon in Winchester, Va. The Eagles even their season record at 1-1.
In the first quarter, the Eagles fell behind, 2-0, after Shenandoah goals a 8:31 and 5:13. The Eagles found the scoreboard with 32 seconds remaining, as
Dave Votapek scored his second goal in as many games.Â
In the second, the Hornets scored first to build its lead to 3-1, before the Eagles started the game-changing run.
Ryan Adams scored his second of the season just 12 seconds after the Hornet goal, on an assist from
Jackson Rhodes, and
Tanner Boone knotted the score at 3-3 with 6:33 left, on a Votapek assist. Carer Lynch followed with 2:37 remaining to give the Eagles the lead, and Votapek added another with 1:25 left to build the halftime margin to 5-3.
The third quarter was all Eagles, as they outscored the hosts, 6-1. Lynch opened the scoring at 9:44, and
Henry Moag followed at 8:58 on a man-up score assisted by Lynch. Rhodes followed with another tally with 4:56 remaining, as the lead grew to 8-3. After a Shenandoah score, Votapek added his third of the day with 3:39 left in the third, on a
Jacob Fowler assist. Jams Milligan found the nets at 2:02 on a
Dylan Frost pass, and Adams capped the third wih his second of the day.
In the fourth,
A.J. Lembo scored on a Lynch assist with 7:14 remaining.
The Eagles led in shots, 42-26, and in ground balls, 44-26. UMW won 17-21 faceoffs, and caused 18 turnovers. All-America senior
Keegan Shipe had five ground balls and five caused turnovers. UMW goalkeeper Wyatt Marin made four saves in three quarters, while
Ryan D'Angelo added three in relief.
UMW will return to action on Saturday, when he Eagles visit Roanoke College at 2:00 p.m.
