The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 12-10 decision at Roanoke College on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles slip to 1-2 on the season.
After Roanoke scored in the opening seconds, UMW bounced back with scores from
Carter Lynch and
Reece Stone to grab a 2-1 lead with four minutes elapsed into the game. The Maroons scored three straight to take a 4-2 lead, before
Henry Moag scored to pull the Eagles to within 4-3 midway through the first quarter. Roanoke closed the frame with two goals to take a 6-3 lead after 15 minutes.
In the second, Roanoke extended its lead before
Dave Votapek scored to pull UMW to within 7-4. After the Maroons added another, the Eagles gained goals from
Dylan Frost and
Tanner Boone to pull to within 8-6 at halftime.
The scoring slowed in the second half, but no before each team tallied three goals in the third.
Mike Seraphin-Jones, Moag, and
Ryan Adams found nets for the Eagles. Roanoke added another score in the fourth, and Lynch capped the game scoring with 5:08 remaining.
Moag had two goals and one assist and Lynch a pair of goals for UMW, and Votapek added a goal and two assists.
Wyatt Martin had 11 saves in goal. UMW led in shots, 53-40, and Roanoke led in ground balls, 39-31.
The Eagles will return to action next Saturday when they host Bridgewater College at noon.
