The University of Mary Washington baseball team fell to Hartford in the Methodist Invite on Saturday night, 7-3, in Fayetteville, N.C.
The Eagles fell behind by seven in the fourth inning before mounting a small comeback as
Eric Powell drove in
Noah Roots to cut the deficit to 7-1 in the fourth inning. Then
Ryan Schwarz singled home
Luke Guerzon in the seventh to cut it to 7-2, and finally,
Oliver Martin scored on a wild pitch for the last run of the ballgame.
Despite the loss,
Jackson Myers pitched well, allowing zero earned runs in his three innings of work, striking out seven and allowing five hits. Freshman
Ryan Henson struck out on, while allowing just one hit and no runs in his 2.2 innings of work, while
Nick Jordan worked through two flawless innings and
Andrew Poon finished off the evening with a shutout seventh.
The Eagles are back in action on Sunday evening to cap off their weekend in North Carolina with a matchup against Methodist at 5 p.m.
