The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team was led by Elizabeth Berry's career-high 16 points in the Eagles' loss to Salisbury on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va., 51-45.
Berry and the Eagles were hot from the start as UMW began to pull away with a 6-0 lead just three minutes into Saturday's action. The Sea Gulls stormed back to take a 9-8 lead with just over three minutes left in the first quarter, but UMW finished off a 5-0 run to take a 13-9 lead into the end of the first quarter.
In the second, Mary Washington outscored Salisbury by 10, 14-4, as the Eagles took a 27-13 lead into the break. Berry led all scorers with 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, while also coming away with six rebounds and two steals.

The Eagles held Salisbury to just a 5-of-22 line in the first half (22.7%), while Mary Washington was 13-for-37 (35.1%) from the floor.Â
But in the second half, the Eagles were outscored by 20 points, 38-18, as the Sea Gulls stormed back for the victory.
All told, UMW was 20-of-68 from the floor, which included a 3-pointer. The defense forced Salisbury into 17 turnovers as Mary Washington recorded 10 steals and five blocks. Salisbury, meanwhile, was 16-of-35, which included five 3-pointer's.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Shenandoah. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
