The University of Mary Washington's
Juliona Mabie led the charge for the Eagles on offense as she netted a career-high 20 points in the Wednesday evening loss to Southern Virginia in Buena Vista, Va., 54-42. Mabie was tough to stop for the Knights after she went 7-of-13 from the floor that included six made free throws. She nabbed eight boards, added two assists and a pair of steals in her effort as well.
The Knights took a 37-21 lead into the half, but coming out of the break, the Eagles were able to click defensively as they held Southern Virginia to just a pair of points on a 1-of-15 mark from the floor and a 0-of-5 mark from deep.
On defense, the Eagles held the Knights to just a 19-of-64 (29.7%) mark from the floor for the game and a 7-for-29 line from deep (24.1%), while coming away with six steals on 13 turnovers. On the boards, UMW and Southern Virginia were just about even with the Knights slightly out-rebounding UMW by one, 43-42. For UMW, it was 16-for-55 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointer's.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday against Dickinson in Ron Rosner Arena in Fredericksburg. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
