The University of Mary Washington women's basketball's senior center,
Rileigh Weaver, netted a season-high 15 points in the Eagles' loss to Dickinson on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va., 54-37. Weaver made six of her 13 baskets, recording six rebounds and a steal for UMW.
In the first half, Weaver scored just three of her points with the bulk of her damage coming in the second half as UMW tried to make a second-half comeback. Weaver scored 12 points, making five of her 10 attempts from the floor that also included a pair of free throws.
The Eagles' best offensive quarter came in the third when they went 8-of-14 from the field (57.1%), which included a 3-pointer. On defense, they held the Red Devils to a sub 35% line in each of the first quarter (26.4%), second (25%), and the fourth (33.3%). For the game, the Red Devils shot just 33.8% and recorded a 4-of-19 mark from deep (21.1%). UMW, meanwhile, was 15-of-49 from the floor that included a trey. The defense forced 15 turnovers, too, coming away with four steals and three blocks.
Jenna Steadman added nine points on a 4-for-5 day.
The Eagles are back in action next Saturday against Messiah for a 2 p.m. tip-off in Fredericksburg.
