Phillips Records First Career Double-Double as UMW Women's Basketball Falls to Brooklyn, 75-65

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team's first-year forward Ainsley Phillips recorded her first career double-double with 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while coming away with 10 rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist in the Eagles' 75-65 loss to Brooklyn on Monday afternoon in Bethlehem, PA.

Both the Eagles and the Bulldogs got out to quick starts from the floor, scoring a combined 43 points in the opening quarter as UMW came away with a one point advantage, 22-21.

After falling behind by eight in the opening minutes, the Eagles went on a 13-0 run of their own from the 8:19 mark to the 5:21 mark as it began with an Phillips jumper in the paint to cut into the lead, 8-2. After a turnover, junior guard Jenna Steadman nailed a jumper for her first points of the day before hitting the first of her three treys. Following a Brooklyn miss, Steadman hit another 3-pointer to give UMW its first lead of the day, 10-8 before Emma Terry nailed the first of her 3-pointer's to cap UMW's run.

Both teams traded baskets until the end of the quarter as the Eagles went 9-for-18 from the floor and was 4-of-6 from deep (61.5%). UMW continued to shoot the ball well into the second quarter as it was 8-for-13 from the floor, which included a 3-pointer, but the Bulldogs were slightly better as they took a 41-40 lead into the halftime break. Coming out of the half, Brooklyn began to pull away a little more as it out-scored the Eagles by three points in the third before taking control of the game in the final quarter.

On the defensive end, UMW forced 23 Brooklyn turnovers, coming away with five steals. On offensive, the Eagles shot 26-of-67 from the floor, while knocking down eight of their 20 3-pointer's (40%).

Steadman led the way with a career-high 17 points on a 6-of-12 day from the floor, while Terry netted nine points for the Eagles on her 3-of-4 day from deep.

The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday at 11 a.m. against Ceder Crest.
