The fifth ranked University of Mary Washington men's basketball team pulled away from Schreiner University for an 85-62 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Leslie Robinson Classic in San Antonio, Texas. The Eagles improve to 10-1 on the season.
Schreiner, using six three-point baskets in the opening ten minutes, were able to stay close to the Eagles, holding a 20-18 lead with 10:04 left in the first. Baskets from
Anthony Lewis,
Kye Robinson, and
Kaden Bates gave the Eagles a 24-20 lead, but Schreiner bounced back, before UMW went on a 7-0 run to end the first half to take a 37-31 advantage to halftime.
The Eagles were able to pull away in the second half, shooting a hot 62.5% from the floor (20-32), while limiting Schreiner to 34.5% (10-29).
Robinson led the Eagles with 32 points on 12-19 shooting, with one three pointer and a 7-7 performance from the free throw line. Junior
Jay Randall scored 15 points on 7-8 shooting, while Lewis scored 14 and
Jadon Burgess 10.
The Eagles shot 53.1% for the day (34-64), making 4-13 three point tries and 13-17 free throws. Schriener shot 30.2% (19-63), making 10-31 three pointers and 14-22 free throws. The Eagles led in rebounds, 46-36, with Robinson leading with 10. He also led with six assists.
Mary Washington will be back in action on December 29 when the Eagles host Mary Baldwin University at 5:00 p.m.Â
