The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team battled hard with Lynchburg on Sunday afternoon in a 60-51 loss in Fredericksburg, Va. as
Rileigh Weaver (13),
Juliona Mabie (12), and
Maddy Jenisch (10) all reached double figures in points.
The Eagles and Hornets were tied at 18 all at the end of the first quarter once UMW got out to a 7-0 lead early on, but it was all Hornets from the second quarter on.
The Eagles were tough defensively once again, forcing the Hornets into 15 turnovers, coming away with eight steals as Jenisch had three of her own. They held Lynchburg to a sub-40% mark from the floor (39.3%) and just a 5-for-21 mark from deep (23.5%). Weaver came away with three blocks as well. UMW shot 20-of-60 from the floor that included a pair of 3-pointer's.
On the boards, Mary Washington led the way as it out-rebounded Lynchburg, 40-37.
Emma Terry led the way with nine defensive rebounds for the Eagles.
Mary Washington is back in action on Wednesday against Bridgewater (RV) in Fredericksburg. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
