The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team fell to DeSales on Sunday afternoon in the Susquehanna Tournament consolation game, 81-59. The Eagles were led by
Mackenzie Wharton's 12 points (4-of-6) and
Maddy Jenisch's 10, who added six assists. Meanwhile,
Emma Terry,
Jenna Steadman, and
Rileigh Weaver each had eight points for UMW.
At the end of the first quarter, UMW and DeSales were tied at 16, but after a seven-point DeSales advantage in the second quarter, the game slipped away from UMW. The Eagles shot 18-of-61 from the floor (29.5%), while knocking down nine 3-pointer's, which included a 5-for-7 mark in the third quarter (71.4%). DeSales, meanwhile, went 31-for-71 from the floor and was held to a 4-of-16 mark from deep (25%).
On the defensive end, UMW came away with five steals on nine turnovers, and were only out-rebounded by a pair of boards, 44-42.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday at NC Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m.
