The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team dropped its home opener to Randolph, 49-46, on Tuesday evening in Fredericksburg, Va.
The Eagles started off strong, taking a 15-6 lead into the second period after a 5-of-10 shooting performance that included a 3-pointer. Then they took a 24-19 lead into the half before then leading 35-26 heading into the final period. The Wildcats then out-scored UMW by 12 in the final quarter to take the victory.
Juliona Mabie led the way for the Eagles with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting and four free throws.
Maddy Jenisch had 11 with a trio of treys to go along with five rebounds.
For the game, UMW shot 15-of-49 that included knocking down three 3-pointer's. On the defensive end, the Eagles held the Wildcats to just a 13-for-45 line from the floor (28.9%), forcing 21 turnovers and coming away with three steals. UMW, too, out-rebounded Randolph by six, 39-33.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at Southern Virginia.
