The University of Mary Washington volleyball team opened the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with a five-set win over Regent University before falling in three to top-seeded Salisbury University on Friday in Santa Cruz, Cal. The Eagles move to 11-22 on the season.
UMW dropped the first set to Regent, 25-17, before taking the second, 25-16. Regent won the third, 25-22, before UMW won the fourth, 25-16, and the fifth, 15-9. Junior
Natalie Brown led UMW with 20 kills, while sophomore
Sarah Starling posted 14 and
Mackenzie Williams added 12.
Freshman
Aimee Abad scored five aces and scored 11 digs, freshman
Olivia Fortier added 32 assists, senior
Maura Munson scored 16 assists, and junior
Sydney Aiken scored 16 digs, with Brown adding 12.
The Eagles fell to Salisbury, 25-15, 25-6, 25-11. Brown led the Eagles with nine kills, and also added six digs. Fortier scored 12 assists, Aiken led with 12 digs, and Abad and Fortier also posted six digs each.
UMW will be back in action on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the C2C third place match against UC Santa Cruz.
