The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team held strong against the nation's No. 5 team in Christopher Newport at Roy Gordon Field in Fredericksburg, Va. on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles had plenty of their fair changes with 15 shots on Saturday, compared to the Captains' 8. In the 13th minute, junior
Jack Sturman had an open shot, but wasn't able to beat the CNU keeper.
In the 17th minute, junior
Elliot Berg had a chance early, but couldn't convert as a Captain got their chest on the ball to record a team save.Â
Moises Argueta-Garcia, similarly, had a chance just a minute later, but couldn't covert as well. Sturman, then, had another open chance, but that, too, was corralled by the Captains keeper.
Late in the first half, sophomore
Christian Rodriguez had an open shot, but kicked it too high to go into the back of the net. The rest of the chances for UMW were foiled in the second half, not having a clean look at the net.
On the day, UMW recorded five shots-on-goal, whiel CNU had three as keeper
Tristan Kickbush came away with three saves and his second career shutout.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Shenandoah at Roy Gordon Field.
