The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team took down Marymount in Arlington, Va., 2-1, on Wednesday evening.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead early when
Alex Raudales netted his first goal in an UMW uniform in the 37th minute before closing the half with the same margin. In the first half the Eagles had a shot advantage of 12-7 and an 11-1 corner kicks advantage.
UMW then took a 2-0 lead on
Sammy Amorose's penalty kick in the 64th minute, icing the game for the Eagles. Marymount inched a little closer with a goal in the 78th minute, but by then it was too late.
In a homecoming of sorts, Arlington native
Tristan Kickbush recorded nine saves and the victory for Mary Washington as the Eagles led in shots 20-19. Marymount, though, had more shots-on-goal with 10, while the Eagles had nine.
Mary Washington is back in action on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. when the Eagles take on Salisbury at Homecoming in Fredericksburg, Va.
