Elizabeth Stribling and senior
Katie Craddock caged fourth quarter goals on redirected shots to lift the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Marian University (WI) on Sunday afternoon at the Battleground. With the win, the Eagles improve to 9-5 overall, and 3-0 in College Field Hockey Conference play.
The Eagles maintained play in their offensive half of the field for much of the play, but found themselves in a scoreless battle entering the fourth. Through three quarters, the Eagles led in shots, 15-0, but Marian's galokeeper made nine saves through 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless.
The Eagles opened the fourth with a penalty corner, and junior
Katie Royle sent the in-bound pass up top to junior
Mackenzie Proffitt, whose shot was redirected by Stribling in front of the keeper and into the back of the cage at 45:34. Craddock provided an insurance tally at 53:03, again on a Proffitt helper.
In all, the Eagles led in shots, 24-0, as well as penalty corners, 16-0. UMW will return to action next Saturday, when they visit Centre College at 12:00 p.m. in another CFHC matchup.
