The University of Mary Washington's women's soccer team's
Maci Landel scored the first three goals to ignite the offense in the Eagles' 6-0 win over Coast-to-Coast Conference foe Regent on Sunday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va.
Landel scored three times in the first 22 minutes of action. On her first goal,
Ellen Shine took a shot that was saved by the Royals keeper before Landel was able to get her foot on it to put it in the back of the net just five minutes into play.
Her second goal came six minutes later in the 11th minute when she took the ball herself through the defense in the 18-yard box, nailing her second score of the afternoon. Then her third came when
Skye Lawhun found her open for the Eagles' third goal of the game.
For Landel, she doubled her season total in goals in one game, going from three to six. But after her hat trick, the offense didn't stop there.
Just two minutes later in the 24th minute,
Emily Box crossed the ball into the box for
Taylor Garofalo, who netted her first career goal to put UMW up by four, 4-0.
Box then found the back of the net in the 30th minute when
Layla Royster found her in front of the net to close out a five-goal first half for UMW.
The last score came in the 79th minute when
Gloria Abiassi netted her second goal of the season when Royster and
Olivia Ewing teamed up to get the ball to her, pushing the lead to 6-0.
On the day, UMW took a season-high 49 shots with 19 of them being on net, while holding Regent to no shots -- the third time UMW has done so this season. The Eagles also led with eight corner kicks, controlling the offensive possession for just about the entire game.
Emily Orn earned the win in net for UMW, while
Kate Ronzoni played the final 45 minutes in net.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday afternoon against McDaniel at Roy Gordon Field. First touch is set for 3:30 p.m.
