Senior midfielder
Monique Lipton scored her first collegiate hat trick and added an assist to pace the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 9-2 victory at Meredith College on Saturday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C. The Eagles improve to 7-4 on the season.
Lipton started the scoring with an unassisted tally at 3:57, and junior
Mackenzie Proffitt added another less than a minute later, and senior
Caroline Porter added her first of the year on a Lipton assist at 5:41.
The Eagles applied pressure from the start of the second quarter, as
Kenzi Reece scored on an
Olivia Perrin assist just 29 seconds into the quarter. Reece scored again on a
Lauren Boucher assist at 18:22, and the Eagles held a comfortable 5-0 lead at halftime.
Lipton opened the third quarter with another score at 31:45, and junior
Hannah Jadgchew added a penalty stroke at 33:17. Lipton added her third score at 35:25, before the Avenging Angels scored.
Katie Craddock scored on a Reece assist to cap the third quarter scoring. Meredith scored the lone goal of the fourth.
The Eagles led in shots, 41-9, as well as penalty corners, 9-4. UMW goalkeeper
Tori Winans made one save while sharing time with Lena Chandler and
Erin Roy (one save).
UMW will return to action on Wednesday when they Eagles host #2 Salisbury University at 4:00 p.m.
