Despite a strong offensive showing from Juliana Mabie (14 points) and
Jenna Steadman (12 points) and strong second period, the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team fell to No. 14 Washington & Lee, 66-44, on Thursday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va.
Mabie finished off a 5-of-14 showing from the floor to go along with five rebounds. Steadman, meanwhile, was 4-of-10 with two rebounds and assists.
The Eagles got a slow start in the first quarter as they trailed by 10, 26-10, but a strong showing in the second quarter brought it back to a five point deficit to end the half, 31-26. The Eagles held the Generals to just five points (2-of-18) in the period and zero points after the 7:32 mark.
In the third period, UMW was outscored, 16-7, and in the final quarter, the Generals put the Eagles away with a 19-point outburst.
All told, the Eagles shot 14-of-59, which included a 3-pointer and held Washington & Lee to just a 22-of-66 mark from the floor (33.3%) and a 7-of-26 mark from deep (26.9%).
Mary Washington is back in action on Saturday with a matchup at Swarthmore. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
