In the University of Mary Washington's men's swimming and diving program's return to a newly renovated Goolrick Nataorium, the team took down Lynchburg in a thrilling finish, 134-128.
The Eagles got off to a slow start with a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay and just a second place finish by
Larry Almariento in the 1,000-yard freestyle, but the points slowly started to pile up in the 200-yard freestyle when
Zachary Cherry won the event (1:48.03) and
Jakob Robinette's third place finish.
In the 100-yard backstroke,
Kyle Diederich placed second, while
Kyle Johnson finished in third. That was followed by
Sam Roundtree's victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.14) just two events later.
Then, as he usually does,
Johnathan Zimmer took home the victory in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.55), while
Evan Shelton finished in third place. And in the 50-yard freestyle, Will Burkey finished in second place.
Roundtree (48.39) and
Darl Everett then would go on to finish first and second in the 100-yard freestyle, while Johnson followed with a third place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Zimmer then took home his second victory of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.94), while Burkey finish in second place.
Almariento then picked up his second, second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, while Roundtree and Cherry finished in second and third in the 100-yard butterfly. And in the 200-yard IM, Zimmer placed first for the third time, while Burkey and Almariento finished in second and third place.
