The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team fell to No. 22 Johns Hopkins on Monday night in Fredericksburg, Va., 70-36.
The Eagles kept it close in the first quarter, 22-16, as they shot 6-of-16 from the floor, which included a 3-pointer. The trey was knocked down by
Maddy Jenisch, which dwindled Hopkins' lead down to a point, 9-8, with just over five minutes left in the first quarter.
But then, the Blue Jays went on a 13-8 run to close out the first period before taking over the rest of the game.
All told, Mary Washington was 14-of-56 from the floor, which included a pair of 3-pointer's. Meanwhile, Johns Hopkins was 27-of-58 from the floor and hit six 3-pointer's.The Eagles, though, were tied in the rebounding totals at 38.
Sophie Pavlech led the way for the Eagles with seven points and 10 rebounds. Jenisch and
McKenna Huff both nailed a 3-pointer, while
Megan Baxter came away with four assists.
The Eagles are back in action on January 25 with a matchup against Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
